Pencahue is a low-lying sector valley surrounded by hills, making it warmer than the typical Maule vineyard, although afternoon ocean breezes cool things down at night. El Peral, with deep clay soils is planted with Cabernet, Syrah, Malbec and Petit Verdot, takes maximum advantage of this warmer temperature to produce wines with opulence and character. We take care to bring out this richness without losing freshness and acidity.
Located next to El Peral, Las Tizas enjoys the same warmth during the day. Its soils are poorer, with lots of chalky hardpan (Las Tizas means “the chalk”) so we need to work the soils constantly to keep the vineyards growing evenly. Here we harvest Syrah with exquisite dark fruit notes and leathery aromas for our Red Blend, and Carménère that is jammy and ripe to blend with cooler climate grapes from Batuco.
Only 14 kilometers to the west of Las Tizas is Batuco, nestled in the Coastal Mountains. Altitude and proximity to the Ocean create a climate that is markedly cooler, making it a perfect place to grow our Pinot Noir. We also produce Carménère with exquisite notes of blueberries and a silky texture that when combined with the rich red fruit of Las Tizas makes for an award-winning Carménère.
